Torbay’s Family Hubs Service

Torbay Council Children’s Services has set up family hubs in Torbay. The plan is to work with the children centres in each town to make them the Family hubs in their neighbourhoods. Children’s Services will be working with the NHS, community organisations and others to ensure that the hubs will be welcoming places where parents-to-be, parents, carers, children, and young people can find the information and help they need in Brixham, Paignton and Torquay.
The Torbay Family hubs will be baby, child, parent and carer friendly, to give families the space to meet each other and share their experiences. This will help them to deal with the stresses and isolation that being a parent/carer or having a new baby can bring.
Our Family hubs will also support older children who can meet together or with professionals either at the main hubs or at other places within the hub network.
A family hub will be a place where families can get good quality information. When going to the family hubs, they will be able to find out about all of the services delivered anywhere within the network, and how they can make use of them. Families will be able to find out about services and activities that are open to all and also can be connected to targeted and specialist services where needed.

Parent Carer Panels
In Torbay what we want to ensure is that there is all the support and help that families need. To do this we are going to establish parent and carer panels. These panels will be a place that parents and carers can meet with professionals to look at how the Torbay’s family hubs will work. The panels will talk about what works, and what doesn’t, for families. It will be a chance for parents and carers to talk, socialise and share experiences. Talking with each other and with professionals to find ways to improve the work of the hubs and the lives of families in the Bay.
Community organisations working in partnership with Children’s Services will support the face-to-face gatherings/meetings in each town, and an online meeting every month for those unable to attend in person.
